The Norwich Tanzania Association was founded by an 11 year old boy named Lukeman Carter in 2012. The aim of the charity is to raise money to offer direct help to people in need in Tanzania by directly funding small community projects. The main focus of the charity is to help children gain a proper education and to ensure they have access to clean drinking water and basic communal facilities.

It was a great pleasure in the summer of 2015 to facilitate the visit by a group of six teachers from Catton Grove Primary School in Norwich to Dar-es-Salaam, Lindi and Zanzibar in Tanzania. The tour followed from the school's kind donation of desks, chairs, tables and other furniture at the end of last year. The English teachers were able to visit a range of primary and secondary schools, meeting both teachers and students and exploring the challenges faced by teachers in Tanzania, as well as the many differences (and some similarities) between teaching in Tanzania and the UK.
Of course, there was also plenty of opportunity to spend time with the wonderful children the teachers met, playing football and other games, learning to dance and distributing gifts from people back in the UK. You can find out more about the teachers' experience on this blog: www.tanzania-cattongrove.weebly.com.
In April 2016, we were delighted that the furniture we packed onto a container in December 2014 had finally been released and distributed to schools in Dar-es-Salaam.
The Norwich Tanzania Association will be facilitating another visit for teachers from Catton Grove Primary School to schools in Tanzania over the summer of 2016. In addition, we will be running our own project to install toilets and wash hand basins in two schools in Dar-es-Salaam to help improve hand hygiene. The project has been generously funded by donors in Norwich and Norfolk.
